Friday 17th July

Dear parents,

Although this is not how any of us would have foreseen or wanted the end of your child’s first year in school to end, we are forever grateful with your continued efforts and support with home learning over the last few months. We know that you have given your child every chance to succeed in Year 1 and the rest of their school lives. Over the summer holidays, it would be really beneficial to recap some of the phonics and maths activities with your child through games and play whilst affording them opportunities to write independently about whatever they want. The children have all been an absolute pleasure to have in Reception this year and we know that they will get along great with their new teachers in Year 1. We have not received many photographs this week so it would be great if you could send us one today so we can post a collage later. Goodbye everyone and we hope that you have a great summer! Below are today’s activities:

Good morning children!

We hope that you had a fun day yesterday and are excited about completing your activities today. Did you see the video that your Year 1 teacher made for you? Can you remember your new teacher’s name? What are you most excited about for your time in Year 1? In PSHE you will be thinking about your favourite moment from Year 1; it would be nice to see what your favourite moment has been and to share them with everyone on Class Dojo.

Have a brilliant day!

Monday 29th June

Dear parents,

We hope that you have had a lovely weekend with your children. Mr Seex has shared a lovely assembly on self-belief that will be good to share with your children, especially as it is coming up to a time of transition for them: https://vimeo.com/432806692  Password: NMPA

The links used in the assembly are as follows:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p011syc1  – Tortoise and Hare story (with links to other stories)
https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Paper-Chain – How to make a paper chain

This week in maths, the children will be recapping addition, subtraction, halving and doubling. Each day, a tutorial relating to the day’s maths will be posted. This is a great opportunity for the children to recap and consolidate their recent learning and for us to assess their skills. A quiz will be posted on Thursday or Friday.

There are some lovely activities for the children to complete this week and it will be great to see some photographs, especially if you have never sent one before. As some children have returned to school, it is a good chance for us to share the children’s learning both at home and at school through Class Dojo. Thursday 25th June

Dear parents,

Today there is a nice activity that will get your children thinking about what they want to do in Year 1. It will be a good way of starting discussions about the transition to Year 1 with the children and may alert you and us to some of their concerns or worries. If the children have any questions that they need answering please let us know and we will answer them soon in a short video.

Please could you continue to send photographs of your child’s work or upload them to the Class Dojo Portfolio as it is a good way for us to assess their learning. It is especially important now as we will soon be having discussions with their next class teacher about their progress and, as we have not seen some of them for quite some time, it will be useful to see how their learning is going. Thanks for your support with this.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact myself or Miss Howes. Below are today’s activities:

Phonics 25/6/2020

PSHE 25/6/2020

Goals and Aspirations

Talk to your child about what they want to achieve in Year 1. Do they want to get better at reading writing or maths? What would they like to learn about? How will they make sure they achieve these goals? They could draw or write about their ideas in the thought bubble and share with their teacher.

Talk to your child about what they want to be when they grow up. Why do they want to do that? How will they achieve this? When they were your age, Mr Carr wanted to be a car designer and Miss Howes wanted to be a bus driver.

Draw or write about their ideas in the thought bubble on the next page and share with their teacher.

Friday 19th June

Dear parents,

Thank you to those who completed the maths quiz with your children. By looking at the responses and through discussions with some parents, it is clear the children have applied the methods they have been taught very well. However, the concept of counting backwards to find an answer and saying one less than a given number is still proving a little challenging. Therefore, a file will be posted shortly that will include activities, interactive games and songs that you could do with your children that will aid their understanding. We would like to post a collage today so please send photos of your children’s work, stories they have written for their thematic Extra Super Challenge or for today’s thematic activity. A story will also be posted shortly from Miss Howes and myself for the children to watch. We hope you enjoy a lovely weekend and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Miss Howes or myself. Below are today’s activities:

Dojo message Monday 15th June

Phonics 15/6/2020

Dear parents,

We hope you have all had a lovely weekend. This week in thematic the children have been set an extra super challenge to write their own story. This can be completed throughout the week and although it is not mandatory, it is an excellent opportunity for the children to show off their writing skills. We hope to be able to post a few more collages this week so please send as many photos as you can as it is good for the children to be able to share their work and gain inspiration and motivation from their peers. A maths and phonics tutorial will be posted today; we have been really impressed with how the children have been applying their new maths and phonics learning so far. A video will also be posted today by Miss Howes or myself welcoming the children to another week of home learning. As always, if you have any concerns, questions or need any support please do not hesitate to contact myself or Miss Howes. Below are today’s activities:

Pack 1

This week the children will learn a new digraph – /or/.

Watch the teacher video that will be uploaded to Class Dojo this morning.

Add sound buttons and sound bars to the words and blend them to read.  One example has been completed for them.

Extra challenge- Write a sentence using one of these words. Remember to use a full stop at the end of the sentence, finger spaces and a capital letter at the beginning of your sentence.

Pack 2

This week the children will recap the /ng/ digraph. Watch the following video that will aid the children’s use of the /ng/ digraph: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQshNmncnBs

Draw it Activity — Read the word/caption and draw a picture of it in the box.

Maths 15/6/2020

Watch the tutorial on subtraction on Class Dojo. Find objects around your home that your child could use to aid their counting. After watching the video write a number sentence using numbers below 10 for your child to solve using the method shown, for example 6 – 2 =. If you feel that your child can answer these calculations independently, they can use this same method to answer questions involving numbers larger than 10.

Extra challenge- Play “I count, you count”; this game will help to teach your child to count backwards to 0 from any given number. An adult says a number and the child says the number that would come next when counting backwards and the adult and child carry on this pattern until they reach 0, for example 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Handwriting 15/6/2020

Pack 1

Ask your child to write a sentence about what they did over the weekend. Remind them of writing on the line and keeping their letters the same size.

Thematic 15/6/2020

Over the summer term we have been learning about lots of magical creatures. This week, your child is going to choose which magical creature they would like to learn about and share what they find out over the week on Class Dojo.

So far, we have learnt about fairies, giants, dragons, elves, mermaids and unicorns. Today, we would like you to work with your child to find out three facts about a magical creature that we haven’t learnt about so far. They can choose one of the magical creatures in the images in the pack or any other magical creature that they know about. They are going to share what they have learnt with their teacher on Friday using Class Dojo.

Extra Super Challenge – Can you write a short story (a few sentences) about your magical creature? It can be funny, sad, exciting or anything you want it to be! Stories will be shared on Class Dojo at the end of the week so send one to your teacher when you have finished. Let’s see if you can impress Miss Howes, Mr Carr and your friends with your story and earn some extra Dojo points. You can do it any day this week. You can use the sheet of paper provided in your pack.

Start today’s doubling with a different set of toys/Lego/dolls. Can you show double 1 up to double 5? If your child is confident you could go up to double 10 e.g. double 10 is 20. If not, it’s important to reinforce to double 5 (e.g. double 5 is 10) If you have a mirror … Get 3 objects and put them in front of the mirror. What happens? Can you create different doubles using a mirror? If you don’t have a mirror… Play partner doubles with your mum/dad/sibling. Show a number using your fingers – can your partner show the same. Compare your shadow with someone else’s. Is it taller than yours? Is it shorter? You could also do this by putting a large piece of paper on the floor and using pens or pencils. If it is a dull or rainy day then try this inside using a torch to act at the sun.

Good morning children,

You have blown your teachers’ socks off so far this week at how good you are at doubling and at learning your new phonics digraph! Dojo message for Friday 15th May

Dojo message for Thursday 14th May

Dear parents,

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support with the home learning activities; we know the children are enjoying learning at home and are doing well with their activities. I have attached the phonics activities for both packs to this message in case you are having difficulty accessing them online. I will be uploading a surprise for the children on Class Dojo today; it’s there not only to make them smile but it’s a good opportunity to develop speech and language skills. If you would like to send a photograph of your child learning a new skill for the Friday praise assembly could you please send them to the following email address enquiries@northfieldmanoracademy.org.uk or to myself or Mr Carr and we will pass them on for you. Mr Carr or myself will also post a link on Class Dojo to a maths quiz later today for the children to complete; it is accessible to children accessing both packs of work. There will be five questions. The results will be sent back to us and will help us to see how the children are getting on with the home learning and if they have any misconceptions that we can help to address. In order to get accurate results, the children need to do this as independently as possible. We know that the vast majority of the children will need help to input their answers and read the questions which is totally fine!

Have a lovely day

The players need to ask “what’s the time Mr Wolf?” and the player playing the wolf will turn around and show a number card between 0-10, for example 4 and say “4 o’clock”. They will then turn back around and the other players will take 4 steps towards them. The first player to get to “Mr Wolf” will swap places and become the new “Mr Wolf”.

Dojo message Monday 4th May

Dear parents,

I hope that you have had a restful weekend; thank you for continuing to send Mr Carr and myself photographs of what your child is learning at home. We hope it will help to motivate them to keep working hard with their home learning activities which will help to support them once they come back to school. Here are the activities that we would like the children to complete; could you also show them the video of myself reading the story “The Elves and the Shoemaker” as this will help them to complete their thematic work this week. I will post the video on Class Dojo shortly after this message.

Phonics

Pack 2- Today we are focusing on blending to read.

Watch this clip to remind your child about how we blend sounds to read. Phonics- Learn to read- simple and easy words- Alphablocks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFQ9NmZXsmw

Match the word to the correct picture.

Maths-

“Number Snap”- The children can play this game against their siblings or their parents. Make two sets of number cards 0-10 (one set for each player). Each player will take it in turns to put a number card down on the table/floor and the first person who notices that two cards are the same needs to slap their hand down on top of the cards and say “snap!” They then get to keep all of the cards. Keep playing until someone runs out of cards. The player with all of the cards by the end of the game wins!

This can be differentiated according to how well your child recognises the numbers 0- 10. You can play with all of the numbers or just play with the numbers your child may be finding it difficult to recognise. You can also play this game with the numbers 11-20.

Dojo message Monday 20th April

Dear parents/carers,

I hope you had a pleasant Easter break and are all safe and well! Thank you for the support you have given your children over the last few weeks with their home learning and for keeping in touch with us regarding their progress. Here are the activities that we would like the children to complete this week; if you have not collected a paper copy of their work from the school office, copies will be posted on the school website. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

Monday 20th April

Phonics- Read the word and match it to the correct picture. The children can either draw a line from the word to the picture or cut out the words and pictures and match them together. Children accessing pack 1 will be focusing on the /sh/ and /ch/ sound and those accessing pack 2 will focus on words containing three phonemes (single sounds).

Maths- Can you get two groups of objects. This can be toys, or house hold objects such as shoes, cups, cutlery. Talk about how we are going to add them together and write an addition sentence. For example, two cups add two spoons (2 + 2 = 4). Can children use the language such as plus, add or equals? Children can touch count the objects to find the answer. Extra challenge-counting on when adding. Your child could add on from the first number for example 2+2=, they count on from 2, saying 3,4. Super star challenge- can they write their own number sentences with support?

Reading- Read a reading book or log on to EPIC Books https://www.getepic.com/Class code pcr2776 or Access phonics play blending games- Username-march20 Password- home

Handwriting- Write the letters t and u and then write your full name. You can show this video to your child as guidance on how to form letters correctly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kon3vb2BipU.

Thematic- This term we will be learning all about “The Magical World”. We will learn about lots of different magical creatures and their habitats and at the end of term you will be asked to design your very own magical creature, write about its magical powers and present your design to your friends! Today we would like you to name as many magical creatures, habitats, magical powers as you can and then send your ideas in a message to your teacher. At the end of the week, your teacher will post a CAF of all of your ideas.

PE- Join in with “All Yoga Disco Dance Fitness Yoga!” on Cosmic Kids on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSgZl8f5leU

Please read this message to your child:

Good morning children,

We hope that you have had a lovely Easter holiday and had lots of fun in the sun with your family. We hope that you are ready to get back to completing your home learning activities and are excited to start your new topic “The Magical World”. What do you think we might learn about? What do you already know about the magical world?

Have a lovely day!

Miss Howes and Mr Carr

Dojo message Friday 3rd April

Dear parents/carers,

Thank you so much for all of the support you have given your children over the last two weeks; we really appreciate it! Friday 3rd April

Phonics- Segment the words “high”, “sight” and “light” in your activity book and draw a picture to match each word. Extra challenge- write the sentence “The light is bright”. If your child has phonics activity 9, could they please complete that today.

Maths- Capacity- Can you talk to your children about the terms full, empty, half full, half empty. Can the children fill up their cup half way? Can they empty their cup? Can they tell you how much water is in their cup? Write down the language that they use in their activity book.

Reading- Read one of your reading books or access books on Epic Books using the class code pcr2776

Handwriting- Continue to write the names of other family members. Practise writing the letters n and o. Practise letter formation and pencil control on the sheets provided in the pack.

Extra challenge- What would your child like to do over the Easter holidays? Remind them of the suggested activities on the “100 things to do inside” document we posted on Class Dojo last week. Can your child write a list of things they would like to do?

Please read this message to your child:

Good morning children,

Well done on completing your second week of home learning! Your teachers are so proud of how hard you have been working at home and we know that your mummies and daddies, nannies and grandads and brothers and sister are so proud of you too! We have a few activities that we would like you to complete today and then we want you to have the best Easter holiday with your family. We can’t wait to see what you get up to and we will see you again soon! We have TWO more mystery readers for you today, can you guess who it might be?

Have a lovely day!

Dear parents/carers,

Thank you for the photos that we have received on Dojo and Tapestry, it is great to see all the children’s hard work and all the fun they are having! Maths- Prepositions

Look at the special awareness maths poster. Can you put a circle around the duckling pond? Are the rabbits in front or behind the pond? Where is Little Red Riding Hood? Where is the squirrel? Is the frog on or above the log? Please encourage children to use their language of prepositions to explain the answers and not just point and say ‘there it is’.

Reading- Read one of your reading books, a book from home or access books on Epic Books using the class code pcr2776

Handwriting- Can children write their full name. Practise writing the letters p and q.

Or someone in your home could do this for you and provide prepositional clues. To further the challenge, children could have a go at writing clues. How many items did you find?

Please read this message to your child:

Good morning children,

We hope you have all been trying to exercise every day, whether this is PE with Joe Wicks, go noodle, Andy’s wild adventures, using your bike, scooter or just running around or going for a walk. Have you told your families how we usually start our day with physical activities such as dough disco or go noodle? It helps to wake our bodies and brains up and get ready to learn and makes us feel good. We would like you to complete some activities today and then we want you to enjoy the time with your families.

Have a lovely day!

Dojo message Wednesday 1st April

After learning about all of these professions, what would you like to be when you are a grown up? Why would you like to do that job?

Please read this message to your child:

Dojo message Monday 23rd March 2020

Dear parents/carers,

This is the first day of completing your child’s home learning pack. We hope that you have had a chance to look at some of the activities in the pack but if not, don’t worry, as we will explain which activities to complete each day and how to complete them.

We will set the children a list of activities to complete each day and we recommend that your child has a break between each activity as young children are able to focus best when they have been given the opportunity to relax, exercise or play. We will send you a message each morning between 8:45am-9:00am explaining what your child needs to do on that day. If your child completes the work set each day, they are welcome to complete any extra challenges set by us or yourselves in their blue activity book or in a notebook of their own. We will also send pictures of the answers for the previous day’s work so your child has the opportunity to check their work with you and gives you the opportunity to discuss any misconceptions that your child may have. Also, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions that you may have throughout this home learning period!

Monday 23rd March

Phonics- Complete the /th/ sound matching sheet or phonics sheet 1. Your child needs to blend the word and draw a line to match it to the correct picture. Extra challenge- can you say/write a sentence using one of these words?

Walk around your home and find examples of these shapes. Talk about the properties of these shapes. How many can you find? Extra challenge- create a tally chart to record how many examples of these shapes you can find in your house.

Please read this message to your child:

Good morning children,

I hope that you have had a lovely weekend and are looking forward to showing your Mummies and Daddies how fantastic you are and how hard you have been working at school this year. I will send you a message every day to let you know what activities you can do at home and I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
