Why Choose Northfield Manor Academy?
Love of Learning
We nurture children’s natural curiosity through a wonderfully wide curriculum and a wealth of enrichment activities, helping them to discover their interests and develop self belief. Our goal is to provide every single child with a genuine love of learning that they can draw upon throughout their lives.
Rooted in Relationships
We ensure that fostering a learning environment rooted in relationships is central to all we do to help children towards success. Strong connections between teachers, students, and peers create a sense of trust, belonging, and emotional security, enabling children to thrive both socially and academically. A positive and supportive network of relationships not only enhances communication and collaboration but also cultivates a safe space where students feel empowered to take risks, express themselves, and engage wholeheartedly in the learning process.
Seizing success
We are committed to empowering our children to seize success through a comprehensive and nurturing approach to education. Our dedicated team of educators fosters a stimulating learning environment, providing tailored support to each child’s unique strengths and challenges. Through guidance, an engaging curriculum, and a focus on character development, we aim to instil the skills, confidence, and resilience necessary for our students to achieve their full potential.
Northfield Manor Primary Academy Follows Birmingham Education Policy for Admissions
RECEPTION CLASS
Places are offered for Reception class by the Local Authority. We are 2 form entry school with a maximum of 30 children in each class. Children in Birmingham can start school (Reception) in the September after their 4th birthday. Parents can apply for a place in the autumn of the year before their child turns four-years-old.
Compulsory school age
By law, parents must make sure that their children are receiving suitable full-time education at the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.
A child who reaches the age of five during the 2025 to 2026 summer term would reach compulsory school age in September 2026.
However, it is not possible to accept a place in the reception class for September 2025 but defer the child’s admission until the beginning of the 2026 to 2027 academic year. If a child did not take up their place in a reception class during the 2025 to 2026 academic year, a separate in-year application would need to be made for the child to enter the school in year 1.
Alternatively, a parent has the right for their child to be admitted on a part-time basis during the reception class year, but not beyond the point that they reach the compulsory school age.
In both cases above, a school place is held for the child until they take it up.
Parents must notify the school in writing of their intention to delay their child’s start date.

IN-YEAR SCHOOL ADMISSIONS
Any parent wishing to admit their child in another year group or into Reception after the normal intake in September should apply directly to the school. They will need to complete the form “Application for Change of School (In-Year)” and return it to our school office. A place will be offered provided the admission limit for that year group is not exceeded. We are a 2 form entry school with a maximum of 30 children in each class.
When there are no spaces available in a year group the child will be placed on either the schools In-Year or Reception waiting list. This is managed by the school office staff, who advise the Local Authority on a weekly basis of any applications for school places or any children that have been admitted.
The following over-subscription criteria apply for waiting lists:
– Looked after children (in public care)
– Where the child has a brother or sister currently attending the school
– Proximity of the child’s home address to the school
Parents will be informed of their right to appeal.
