Rainbow Group

Good Morning, Rainbow Group,

Welcome to our last week of home learning.

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready for the last week of term. In school, we would have had lots of fun activities planned for you so that is exactly what I have done for this last week.

On your class page you will find the Power Point for the whole of this week. There are lots of slides with links to some of the best Maths, English and Phonics websites with games to enjoy. I have also included some of your favourite Brain Breaks, along with a few quizzes, crafts and cooking ideas. Your task this week is to have fun with your learning. There is no set timetable so if you want to do all of the Maths links, then that is fine. Likewise, if you wish to do two cooking activities in one day, that is fine, too.

As an extra, if you missed any of the Transition module from last week, may I suggest that you go back and have a look at the slides as they will be useful to help you prepare for next term. There is also a link to view an assembly about transition from Mrs Painter, on the school Dojo page. If you have any queries about Transition, you can message either myself, your class teacher or Mrs Painter and we will try to answer it.

Above all, Rainbow Group, HAVE FUN!

Mrs Thorp

Good Morning, Rainbow Group,

Today is FUN FRIDAY and Miss Galvin has sent me your activities for the day. Don’t forget to send me your photos so that I can add them to your portfolio and award your Dojo points.

Have a great day,

Mrs Thorp

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

Today is your last day of the Transition module and I hope that you have found it useful. If you have missed any slides this week, it would be a good idea to go back and look at them, today, to ensure that you have covered all of the areas. Don’t forget that Cavern and Ellis’s slides will be posted separately and I will be online if you have any questions.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group,

Mrs Thorp

Wednesday 8th July

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

We are on Day 3 of your Transition week and I hope you are all finding it useful. I will put today’s slides on the class pages, as usual. If you have missed a day, you will need to start at Monday’s slides to get the best from the module. Don’t forget to message me if you have any questions and I will do my best to help you.

Have a great day,

Mrs Thorp

Tuesday 7th July

Good Morning Rainbow Group.

I hope that you enjoyed your self-reflection activities, yesterday. I bet you all thought of so many amazing things about yourself.

Today’s slides will be on the class pages again. Make sure that you are working from the correct set of slides: the Secondary School transition slides are for Cavern and Ellis – everyone else is working from the Rainbow Group set.

Have a lovely day, everyone,

Mrs Thorp

Monday 6th July

Good Morning Rainbow Group,

I hope that you all had a lovely weekend and are ready for your work, this week. We will be concentrating on Transition and there will be different slides for Cavern and Ellis as you are both moving on to Secondary School, so make sure you open the correct slides.

Your work pack will include all of the sheets that you will need, and there may be a few extra sheets that you can talk about with your families at the end of this week. Some of the activities you can complete online or directly onto the slides. If you want to use this option, you will need to save the Power Point (using Save As) before you can write on it. Don’t worry if you accidentally delete something as you can always download the original copy from the class page.

I will be available online all morning to answer any questions you may have. (I am in school today so you might have a delay whilst I am travelling to work.) I have asked your parents to show you how to use the message system so that you can get in touch with me, or, if you prefer, your parents can message me with your questions.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group,

Mrs Thorp

Friday 3rd July

Good Morning, Rainbow Group,

We have reached the end of another week and it is FUN FRIDAY! Miss Galvin has sent me your activities for today and they will be on the class pages, as usual.

I am also posting a PowerPoint that will give you a sneaky peak about our work next week. I am really excited because we will be talking about moving on to our new classrooms and teachers. We will also be looking back at our achievements from this year (and there have been so many of them in Rainbow Group), and finding out about anything we need to know so that we are well-prepared for our return in September.

Keeping on the subject of celebrations and achievements, please take time to view Mrs Pennington’s Celebration Assembly – she has some wonderful things to say about the work you sent me, earlier this week.

I’m so proud of you all – keep up the good work and have a great day!

Mrs Thorp

Thursday 2nd July

Good Morning Rainbow Group,

Thank you for sending me photos of your work, yesterday. I will forward them on to Mrs Pennington.

Your work today is to continue with the worksheets in your pack and the slides are as before. This will be the last day of your ‘set’ work (Next week will be Transition and you will have different activities to complete) but don’t throw away any unfinished worksheets: you can dip into them as and when you please over the last two weeks, whenever you have a spare few minutes.

Today, I will be in school, so if you have any questions for me, please bear with me as I may not respond immediately. Have a great day, Rainbow Group.

Mrs Thorp

Wednesday 1st July

Good Morning, Rainbow Group!

We are halfway through the week and I am missing the sunshine… Please send me your good work to cheer me up. If you send me a piece of work that you are proud of, you have the chance of seeing it in Mrs Pennington’s next award assembly (please let me know that you are happy for your child’s work to be included, especially if they are in the photo). I have seen some fantastic photos of your work so I know that there must be something that you have particularly enjoyed: I can’t wait to see it.

Your work today is to continue with your work pack and the slides are the same as for Monday. Don’t forget that your stories for the week are at the end of the slides.

Have a lovely day, Rainbow Group,

Mrs Thorp

Tuesday 30th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

I hope that you all had a lovely day, yesterday. Today’s work is in the same vein as yesterday so I won’t upload the slides again: They will stand for the whole of this week. Just make sure that you are completing a Maths, English, Handwriting and Phonics task each day, and comprehension twice a week. I don’t mind which order you complete the tasks – it’s your choice.

I have had a request for a shopping list ahead of the postings for Fun Friday, so I will be sending this out to you, today. The recipe is for chicken kebabs, but there are quite a few ingredients that can be omitted or substituted depending on individual taste. I will send a copy of the YouTube link, also.

That’s all for today. Don’t forget to send me your work so that I can award your Dojo Points.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group

Mrs Thorp

Monday 29th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group.

I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend. The weather, for the most part, was miserable, but at least it gave me a chance to finish off my painting. What did you do to keep yourself busy? Let me know and I will award easy Dojo Points for staying busy or being creative.

Your slides for this week are on the class pages, as usual. There will be no taught focus this week as you all have individual packs with work sheets (as requested) to revisit any areas of learning that you may have found difficult. Therefore, if you need support, you will have to message me with any queries and I will do my best to help you.

Don’t forget that you need to practise your phonics and handwriting, every day, and you can complete any two comprehension sheets that you have left over from previous packs.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group.

Mrs Thorp.

Friday 26th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

Today is FUN FRIDAY!!

Miss Galvin has sent me your activities for today. She would like you to make a tasty macaroni cheese for your cooking activity. You could serve it with a side salad to keep it healthy and delicious.

Your craft activity is to make a dreamcatcher. There are two different links for this activity – one of them is more challenging than the other so you can choose which is best for you. (Feel free to adapt it for whatever materials you have at home.) You can add your own decorations to personalise it. If you don’t have beads, you could paint pieces of dried pasta in your favourite colours.

Have fun, Rainbow group, and don’t forget your photos.

Thursday 25th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

Today, you have a special maths investigation to complete. You will be using all of your Data Handling skills – tally charts, and pictograms or bar charts – to carry out your investigation and display your results. I know you are going to enjoy it. Don’t forget to send me your photos.

I will be in school, today, so if you have any queries, please bear in mind that it might take me longer to respond.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group.

Mrs Thorp

Wednesday 24th June

Good Morning, Rainbow Group,

We have reached the middle of the week, already. Where is the time going? You are all doing so well with your work and I’m proud of you all. Today’s instructions will be on the class pages, as usual. Don’t forget that I am available if you need any extra advice or support – just message me on Dojo and I will get back to you. Don’t forget to send me your photos when you complete your work: I can’t award your Dojo points or certificates without seeing your work.

Quick reminder for parents: your child will need a tube of Smarties or something similar (Skittles, Fruit Pastilles, Starburst… anything with lots of different colours) for their maths work, tomorrow.

Have fun!

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Thursday 18th June

Good morning Rainbow Group,

I hope you are all well and ready to work. The weather is miserable, again, so when you have finished your worksheets, why not have a go at some of the well-being activities. Your work is on the class pages, as usual, but today, there is a special treat for you at the end of the slides. I won’t spoil the surprise, but make sure you go right to the end of the Power Point. I know you will enjoy it.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group,

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Wednesday 17th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

What a lot of rain we had, yesterday evening. We had some brilliant flashes of lightning, too, but I didn’t get any on camera. My dogs were not too impressed, though… they don’t like loud noises at all.

Your work for today will be on the class pages, as usual. I have seen some fantastic work, this week. It looks like you are enjoying the pictograms and data handling. Maybe, as a super challenge, you could come up with your own investigation. Perhaps you could collect data about your family’s favourite chocolate bar… or favourite pop song? You could message Grandparents, or Aunts and Uncles to make your data more varied. I will award 15 Dojo Points for the most original pictogram or bar chart. Don’t forget to complete your tally charts to help you count your data.

Have a good day, Rainbow Group.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Tuesday 16th June

Have a great day,

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Monday 15th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready to start your next work pack. Over the next two weeks, we will be revising our spelling, punctuation and grammar for your English tasks and we will be looking at data handling, in maths. Your new packs also have comprehension sheets (please complete 2 each week), phonics and handwriting activities. All of the details will be on your daily slides, which can be found, as usual, on the class page

Have fun, Rainbow Group, and don’t forget to send me your photos so that I can award your Dojo points.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Friday 12th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

I hope you have had a lovely week. Miss Galvin has had to go into work, so she has sent me the links for your activities, today. I have had a look at them and I am going to try the cooking activity myself: it looks delicious. You can find the instructions here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88yGkW2BEXc

Your art activity today involves printing with fruit and vegetables to make pictures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdC47J0ipSM If you don’t have spare fruit or vegetables, look around your house and see what you can find. Bottle tops would make great circle shapes of different sizes and the bottom of a cotton reel would make an interesting pattern. Be creative and see what you can find but don’t forget to ask permission before you paint any items.

Have fun, Rainbow group and I look forward to seeing your creations.

Dojo message Thursday 11th June

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

We are nearly at the end of the week and I have seen some lovely work. Don’t forget to send photos as and when you have finished your work so that I can award your Dojo points. If you can’t upload a picture, just send me a message of what you have completed and how you got on.

I have uploaded your work to the class pages as usual. I will be at school, today, so It may take me a little while longer to respond to messages but I will respond… just bear with me, please.

Have a lovely day, Rainbow Group. I look forward to seeing your work.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Monday 1st June

Good Morning Rainbow Group!

Here we are for the last half of the summer term. I hope you all had a relaxing week off and are feeling energised and ready to start your new work packs… ( If you have not yet collected them from school, they are ready and waiting for you in the office) and what a fantastic morning we have, to start our week: the sun is already shining for us. 😁 We have had some brilliant weather over the last week so I hope you all managed to get outside as much as possible and enjoy yourselves.

Your work for the next two weeks will be re-visiting topics that we have already covered over the last two months. I have planned a Peter Rabbit theme and you will notice that there are some ‘investigations’ to complete which will make your activities FUN.  The slide instructions will be kept to basics but they will remind you where you can look for help to support you with your tasks if you need it. You have all completed lots of worksheets that you can refer back to, and of course, you can message me if you need any help.

Every day you will be expected to complete an English, maths and phonics task, and additionally, you will need to choose at least two pieces of comprehension, each week, but there are also some new elements to your work packs. I have included some daily hand writing practise which will include common exception words so that you can practise your spelling, and I have added in a Wellbeing pack, full of fun activities and resources that you can complete whenever you want to.

So, Rainbow Group, have a lovely day and I look forward to seeing all of your completed work.

Have fun!

Mrs Thorp.

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

This is your last set of instructions from me until after half term. You have all worked extremely hard this week – in fact, you always work extremely hard, so Thank You. Today’s work will be on our class pages. It is another day of revision so you may want to check back on Monday or Tuesday’s slides to remind you how to do something. As always, you can message me if you have any questions.

Miss Galvin will be setting your activities, tomorrow (Fun Friday) so I look forward to seeing what she has in store for you. Don’t forget to send me photos of your work so I can award your Dojo Points and get prepare your certificates.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group!

Dojo message Wednesday 20th May

Good morning, Rainbow Group!

It is another beautiful day for learning and the weather is going to be fantastic. Don’t forget your sun screen if you go outside. I am hoping to get out and enjoy the weather later with my dogs – not when it is too hot though, as I don’t want them to be ill: dogs can get sunstroke, too.

Your instructions for today’s work will be on our class pages. You will be revising and practising what you have learned about Position and Movement, and Conjunctions. If you need any extra support, please message me. Don’t forget you can look back at the other slides if you need to.

Have a lovely day, Rainbow Group. I look forward to seeing all of your work, later.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Tuesday 19th May

Good Morning, Rainbow Group,

Welcome to another day of home learning. Can you believe this is your 7th week of work packs? You are all doing extremely well and your resilience is amazing. You have adapted to everything you have been asked to do without question and I am so proud of you all, so THANK YOU for all of your hard work.

Today, your work will be on the class page as usual. Don’t forget that you also have comprehension sheets in your pack so try to find time to fit some into your work schedule, this week. Today I will be going in to school to sort out your work packs for after half term. This means that it might take a bit longer for me to get back to you if you have a query but please, just bear with me and I will message you back as soon as I can.

Have a lovely day, Rainbow Group!

Have a great day and don’t forget to send me your photos so that I can award your Dojo Points.

Dojo message for Thursday 14th May

Hi again,

I’ll be glad when this Lockdown is over. Everything is just more of the same and I can’t remember what day it is. 😂😂

Here is today’s message for Rainbow Group.

Hope you are all well,

Kim x

Good morning, Rainbow Group!

We are nearly at the end of the week: one more day of work to go and tomorrow will be Fun Friday.

As usual, I will upload your work to the class page. The maths, today, may be slightly more challenging as there are some word problems to think about. I have included some direction on how to calculate more or less ‘time’ but this is still a fairly new concept for the boys so if they find the second part of the sheet more challenging, this is to be expected. Just talk through what the questions mean and let them have a go. If they get it wrong, tell them not to worry and just move on to the next question. I don’t want them to worry about this or become too frustrated: there will be plenty of opportunity to look at this again when we return to school.

Have a great day, everyone. Don’t forget to send me your photos so I can award your Dojo points.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message for Wednesday 13th May

Good morning,

Hope you are all well. Today’s message for Rainbow Group is below.

Take care,

Kim xx

Dear Rainbow Group,

It is another chilly morning but hopefully it will warm up like it did yesterday. I especially want it to be sunny and dry as I have planned to go on a special walk, today, to celebrate She-Ra’s birthday. She is now 11 years old and I feel really bad because it was her birthday last week and I forgot! Luckily, I think she forgot, too 😁.

Anyway, today’s work will be posted on the class page, as usual. Don’t forget that I have included comprehension sheets in your pack and you need to complete 2 of them each week. You can fit them in whenever you want to. If you need any support or have any questions, please message me on Dojo, as usual.

Have a lovely day and I look forward to seeing your work.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Tuesday 12th May

Good morning,

I think something is wrong with the weather. It’s broken… I’m freezing, today. If it doesn’t pick up, I might have to do some exercise and then that will lead to aching limbs and a bad back… 🤦‍♀️ it doesn’t bear thinking about, lol.

Hope you are all well, anyway. Here is today’s message for Rainbow Group.

Stay alert! 😁

Kim xx

Good morning, everyone,

I hope that you are all well. Yesterday I had some problems with Dojo so let’s hope that today, it will play nicely. I missed seeing all of your work photos but I quite understand if you also had issues with uploading. Please feel free to email me if you can’t get on to Dojo at any time. Let me know if you don’t have my address and you need it.

Today’s work will be uploaded to the class page as usual. I will also upload a ‘top pick’ from Mr Seex, who has been advising us all on the importance of exercise. You may have already seen (and attempted) some of Joe Wick’s videos on Youtube but if not, please do have a look: It is a great way for everyone to start the day and really wake up those brains, ready for learning.

Don’t forget, if you have any questions or need any additional support with the work pack, please feel free to message me and I will do my best to help you.

Have a lovely day!

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Wednesday 6th May

Good morning, Rainbow Group!

It looks like another beautiful day is looming. This morning I woke up to sunshine streaming through the bedroom windows and my kitchen is bright and cheerful. I do love the sunshine: not so keen on the fact that it highlights all the dust motes in the air (and after 7 weeks of Lockdown, there sure are a lot of dust motes). I guess my exercise/activity for today will be housework. I hope your activities are more fun. Make sure you record what you do, and write your thoughts and feelings in your journals, today.

As usual, I will put the class work on our class page. You can work through them in any order. As most of you have opted to keep Friday as a holiday. We will be doing our Fun Friday activities, tomorrow, which means Miss Galvin will be setting your tasks in the morning. There will also be plenty of worksheets left over for this week, so you can fit these in whenever you have a few spare minutes and if you send me photos of your finished work, I will award extra Dojos.

That’s about it for now. I hope you have a lovely day and do something that makes you feel happy. Don’t forget, I am available if you have any questions (or if you just want to chat to someone different, boys). Feel free to message me.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Tuesday 5th May

Good morning Rainbow Group,

I hope you all had a lovely day, yesterday. I am so pleased that the weather was warmer and I hope that you all managed to get outside and make the most of it.

I have posted your work details on the class page, as usual. I think that the new format is working out okay and nobody has reported any issues back to me, which is a good thing. Today’s work follows the same pattern. Don’t forget to fit in your two comprehension sheets somewhere, this week.

Have a lovely day and remember to send me your photos so that I can award your dojo points to you. I will be messaging you all separately today to make sure that things are going well and that you have no problems with the work packs. Please do take time to respond to the message as it helps me to plant the daily work tasks so that your child can fully understand the set work.

Have fun!

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Monday 4th May

Good morning, Rainbow Group,

Welcome to another week of home learning and the start of your 3rd work pack. If you have had a chance to look at it, you will see that I have ordered your work into subjects and weeks which should make it really easy to find the correct sheets. I will continue to upload instructions onto the class pages but there is a change in the format that I hope will speed up Dojo for you. The test post that I uploaded on Friday seemed to be successful as no-one has messaged to say they can’t access it so I think that is the way forward.

Every day, I will upload 1 Power Point outlining your 4 tasks (Daily journal, English, Maths and Phonics) that you can complete in any order. The Power Point will include information needed for your learning, plus the links to websites to support you. Once the Power Point has opened on your device, you won’t need to access Dojo again unless you want to message me with any questions. This will reduce the strain on Dojo caused by lots of people accessing the site at the same time so you shouldn’t experience any more delays. You will still need to upload the finished work in the same way as before but you can send that over whenever it is easiest for you. If you want to upload on the evening when it is quieter, that is fine. I can easily pick up the posts when I next log in and I will award Dojo points the following day.

In addition to the set work tasks, you will also need to complete 2 of the comprehension sheets from your pack, each week, on whichever day you choose. I won’t give specific instructions for these as they are very straightforward but do message me with the name of the text if you want an answer sheet.

I hope this works out better for everyone. I know it has been very frustrating when you haven’t been able to access the work when you need it. Please remember that I am still here if you do experience any problems and you can message me at any time if you need extra support with the work.

Have a lovely day and don’t forget to send your work to me when you have finished.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Thursday 30th April

Good morning boys,

I hope you are all ready for another exciting day. Today is your last ‘work’ day for this week and you will be at the end of your second work pack. As before, if you have any sheets left over, don’t throw them away. You can use them to revise the topics we have covered over the last few weeks as this will help your brains to remember how to do different things, such as addition/subtraction, story writing and number bonds.

I have posted instructions for English, Maths and Phonics on our class page, as usual. If you can’t access them, please let me know. Don’t forget to send me photos of your finished work so I can add them to your portfolios and award your Dojo Points.

Tomorrow, Miss Galvin will be messaging you about Fun Friday. I know she has really missed you all so she has found a really fun activity for you all to do but I won’t spoil the surprise: you will have to wait until tomorrow.

In the meantime, have a fantastic day, today, and I look forward to seeing your work, later.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Wednesday 29th April

Good morning everyone,

I hope you managed to have a great day yesterday, despite the weather. I am amazed at how well you are all settling into your routines and I’m EXTREMELY PROUD of you all. I know some of you have had ‘off days’ but this is completely normal: I miss our classroom and my friends but most of all I miss YOU and it makes me feel sad for a while. When I feel like this, I try to find something I enjoy doing to keep me busy. Yesterday, I did some painting. I had a HUGE colour-by-numbers canvas for my birthday and it is really quite fiddly and challenging but I am enjoying it.

Today, I have put your instructions on the class page again and everything follows the same pattern as yesterday. Don’t forget to send me photos of your finished work as I really enjoy seeing what you have done. Make sure to have your brain breaks, too but most importantly, make time to do an activity that you really enjoy.

Have a wonderful day, boys.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Tuesday 28th April

Good morning everyone.

I hope you are all keeping well. Today’s work will follow the same pattern as yesterday so don’t forget to check out the slides on the class page for each topic’s individual instructions. I have also included some brain break activities for today as I haven’t shared any for a while. Don’t forget to message me if you need any support with anything: I am happy to help in any way I can.

Have a great day,

Mrs Thorp

Good morning Rainbow Group -Today is Fun Friday! You have worked really hard, this week, so it is time to do something creative, today. Talk to your parents and decide what you are going to cook. It could be breakfast, lunch or a tasty treat: the decision is yours. Afterwards, I would like you have a go at making a jigsaw puzzle. Check out the class page for instructions.

I hope you all have a wonderful morning and don’t forget to send me photos.

Have a lovely day!

Dojo message Thursday 23rd April

Good morning, Rainbow Group.

I hope you have had a good week. Tomorrow will be Fun Friday so this is your last day of times tables for maths. You should all have finished the 3 times tables and some of you will have finished the 4 times tables, too. Check that you have finished the worksheets and booklets then have a go at playing some of the maths games. I will put the links on your class page. Carry on with your phonics activities as normal. Your English task today is to write your story into your books, neatly. Make sure you look at the instructions on the class page which will help you to edit your notes from yesterday.

That’s it for today. Have fun and check back later for the link to your story.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Wednesday 22nd April

Good morning everyone!

I have received some lovely photos of you all with your completed work. I can see you are all really working hard and I am very proud of you.

Today, for your English, I would like you to start writing your stories about Jack and the Beanstalk. I have allowed 2 days for this so you can plan your story today and write it in your books, tomorrow. Make sure you look on the Class Pages for detailed instructions.

Please continue with your phonics and maths workbooks as usual. Most of you have managed to finish your 3 times tables and are ready to start your 4 times tables. If you haven’t yet completed your 3 times tables, don’t worry – just keep working at your own pace and don’t forget to use the tips and strategies to help you. Don’t forget to play the maths games, too.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group. I look forward to seeing your photos, tomorrow.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Tuesday 21st April

Good morning!

I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday and you are enjoying your new work packs. It was lovely to catch up with you all and I really enjoyed seeing all the work you have done so keep those pictures coming.

Today, I would like you to continue with your maths and phonics packs and I will post helpful links on the class page. Your English task will be to answer the comprehension questions about Jack and the Beanstalk. Please write the answers neatly in your workbooks and remember to write in sentences. Check that you have used capital letters and full stops for every sentence. Also remember to keep your writing on the lines and to leave finger spaces. I will award extra Dojo Points for your handwriting, so make sure you send me a photo when you have finished.

Have a lovely day, Rainbow Group!

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Monday 20th April

Good morning Rainbow Group and welcome back to Home School!

I hope you have all had a lovely Easter Break and have enjoyed the sunny weather as much as possible. I have eaten far too many Easter Eggs and too much birthday cake and I am ready to get back to working with you all. You should all have picked up your new work packs from school. If you haven’t yet received yours, please phone the school office to make arrangements.

Your work for this week is themed: Maths will be 3 and 4 times tables, and English will be Jack and the Beanstalk. I will post strategies and directions on Class Story where needed. For English, I will tell you which order to complete your sheets as this will help you write your stories and character descriptions. Phonics will re-visit the phonemes that we have worked on to secure your learning and understanding.

As usual, I will be available on Class Dojo in case you have any questions. Please feel free to message me for any clarification or support: I am happy to help you any way that I can.

Have fun, Rainbow Group, and I look forward to seeing your finished work so that I can give you your Dojo Points.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Friday 3rd April

Good morning, Rainbow Group. Welcome to FUN FRIDAY! You all looked like you had so much fun last week that I’m really excited for you and I can’t wait to see what you get up to today, so don’t forget to send me those photos.

There are just three instructions today:

  1. Choose something to cook.
  2. Make something crafty that has an Easter Theme. I will post a picture on Class Pages for ideas but feel free to do something different.
  3. HAVE FUN!

And that’s it! I will not be actively online, this morning ( I am going to take your new work packs in to school), but I will still be able to pick up your messages and answer any questions: it just might take a little longer to get back to you. I will also post a link to one of my favourite stories for when you have finished your activities.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Thursday 2nd April

Work for Thursday 2nd April

Good morning Rainbow Group! Today is your last working day for this week as tomorrow will be Fun Friday. You should have plenty of sheets left in your work pack after today which is fine. Don’t throw them away, though: I will be giving you the opportunity to earn extra Dojo points after Easter if you complete a piece of work as well as your set work. Parents, this could be especially useful for the maths as our focus in the next pack will be shape and times tables so extra addition/subtraction work will help the children to embed their learning and understanding. We re-visit topics a lot in Rainbow Group.

Todays work will be as follows:

English: Write an informal letter to a friend. I have changed the original instructions slightly so please follow this plan rather the one in the pack. I have written an example letter to Rainbow Group (it will be on the class pages) that tells them some of the things I have done or plan to do over the next few weeks. It uses informal, ‘chatty’ language, has some pictures and groups different topics into paragraphs and some questions to involve the reader of the letter. Please will you talk about these features with your child as they plan their letters. Remember to include an address (you can make one up if you prefer), date, greeting and a friendly goodbye. Talk about the placement of these features (address and date on the right side, miss a line between sections) as these are the main learning points. I would love them to write back to me or Miss Galvin but if they prefer, they can write to a family member or friend. Don’t forget to take photos for me: It might help to photo your letter in sections, as I did, so that it is easier for me to read.

Maths: Join in with the maths song Work Out and Count,   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_yUC1NCFkE&t=94s then practise writing the numbers 0 -20 in words in your book. Choose a worksheet to complete and don’t forget to message me if you would like an answer sheet.

Phonics: Choose a boardgame to play. When you have finished, see if you can find any items in your house that include the chosen phoneme. Take a picture of them next to the boardgame.

Extra Activity: Mr Seex has sent a coding link with some fun activities. The games are available for beginners as well as advanced coders, and they should work on tablets, so have a go and see if you can program your own game. You can find the activities here. https://hourofcode.com/uk/learn

Have fun, Rainbow Group, and don’t forget to send me your photos so that I can give you your Dojo points.

Dojo message Wednesday 1st April

To keep things fun, today is a FREE CHOICE day. Please choose 1 maths activity, 1 story writing activity and 1 phonics activity from your pack. I have listed some links to maths songs, games and brain breaks to keep things interesting and I have also included another drawing activity and a story from YouTube. You can also find the links to these on our Class Page.

Have fun, Rainbow Group, and don’t forget to send me your photos so that I can give you your Dojo points.

Dojo message Tuesday 31st March

Work for Tuesday 31st March

Good Morning, Rainbow Group! This morning I woke up really early and listened to the birds singing. It reminded me that spring is well and truly under way and birds have been nesting and starting to lay eggs. This year, because there are fewer people around in the day, the streets are generally quieter and if you are lucky enough to have a nest close by, you might hear lots of chirping as the babies start to hatch. Next time you are outside in the garden or having a walk with your parents, listen carefully and let me know what you can hear.

Comprehension: (The story will be posted on Class Story.) Today’s work will start with some comprehension about a walk in the park with my dogs. Last week, the weather was really warm and I took a few photos whilst we were out. I hope you enjoy reading about our walk and there are some questions at the end to answer in your books. Remember to write in sentences.

Maths: Warm up and revisit our 5 times table by skip counting with Jack Hartmann and counting in 5s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh8YmvJuJ8A then try the 5 times Table song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFcwMi8l040. Choose a worksheet to answer in your books. Remember to tell me the title of the sheet if you want me to post the answers, tomorrow.

Phonics: Play a phonics board game. If you don’t have a die, use the link to roll one, online https://www.online-stopwatch.com/chance-games/roll-a-dice/ Superchallenge: Re-visit the digraph ‘ch’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEoednLrsMY and, just like Geraldine the Giraffe,  see if you can find anything in your house that has the same phoneme.

That’s it for today. I hope you have a great day and if you have any questions, drop me a message on Dojo.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Monday 30th March

Good morning, Rainbow Group! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready for your second week of home school. These are your instructions for today.

Writing: Use the template in your work pack to write a set of instructions about whatever you cooked on Friday. If your template has the title, ‘How to make chocolate Chip Muffins’, you will need to change it when you write your own instructions. Remember to include a list of ingredients and equipment and use imperative (bossy) verbs in your writing. Don’t forget that each instruction will need a new line and a new number. If you took photos on Friday, you can use these to help you remember what you did.

Maths: Join in with Jack Hartmann to Work Out and Count https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_yUC1NCFkE&t=1s then choose an addition or subtraction worksheet to complete. If you need an answer sheet, please let me know the title of the worksheet you choose. Challenge: Count in 2s from 48 to 76; count in 5s from 55 to 125 and count backwards in 10s from 140 to 0.

Phonics: Revisit the digraph, ‘ng’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoG2ETuIJZ0&t=15s then write as many words as you can think of that contain the ‘ng’ digraph. Choose a worksheet to complete and if you have time, play a phonics boardgame – your choice.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group!

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Friday 27th March 2020

Good morning everyone,

As is the usual practice in Rainbow Group, today is FUN FRIDAY! Your activities today will all be fun-based learning and yes, there will be cooking. I cannot give you a set recipe to follow, unfortunately, as I know that not everyone will have the same ingredients in their cupboards, so we will improvise. Therefore, your work today is as follows:

Cooking: Choose something to cook with your parents. You may want to make something we have cooked in Rainbow Group, or you may wish to try something different. It could be something for a treat (cake or biscuits) or you might want to make lunch for everyone (sandwiches, noodles or boiled egg and toast soldiers). The choice is yours. Please ask someone to take some photos as you cook. I would love to see them but also, you might want to refer to them on Monday when I ask you to write instructions about what you made.

Remember our hygiene rules when you cook: wash your hands before you start and wash them again if you sneeze or cough (turn away from the cooking area if you do this). Today, you will also get the chance to wash up after yourselves: sorry parents – we don’t have a sink in Rainbow Group so this is not something we get to do, regularly.

Art: Today’s art is about making yourselves a game to play. I will be posting some ideas on our class pages and you can choose one of these or, come up with your own idea. Feel free to adapt the activities to suit whatever you have at home. You can change anything if you think creatively enough. Again, please take photos as I would love to see what you come up with, but most of all, HAVE FUN!

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Thursday 26th March 2020

Good morning, everyone.

I hope you all had a good day, yesterday. If you have messaged me for answers to a specific worksheet, these will be posted in your child’s portfolio to avoid confusion.

Today’s work is as follows:

Writing: Please write up your stories neatly in your writing books. Use your plan to help you. You might want to edit your plan before you start in case you can think of anything else you want to include. Remember to use capital letters and full stops, maybe even exclamation marks! Use connectives (and, but, so) to make your sentences more interesting. Superchallenge: use some interesting adjectives (describing words) to make your story even better.

Phonics: Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f74GArsWis to revisit the ‘th’ digraph. How many words can you think of that include the ‘th’ digraph. Write them in your book. You can also play Buried Treasure https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/BuriedTreasure2.html Then choose a phonics work sheet to complete. If you want an answer sheet, remember to message me with the title so I know which sheet you have completed.

Maths: If you did not finish your sheet from yesterday, please finish it today. Then you can practise your addition/subtraction by completing a maths colouring sheet.

If you have any questions, don’t forget I will be online until lunch time.

Have a good day.

Mrs Thorp.

Dojo message Wednesday 25th March 2020

Work for Wednesday 25th March

Good morning, Rainbow Group! Today will be a Free Choice day. You will need to complete one maths worksheet, one story writing (planning) activity and one comprehension sheet, then follow these instructions. When you have finished, you can do the fun, art activity.

Writing – look at the picture you have chosen and talk about what you think is happening. Can you imagine WHY the characters are doing what they are doing?  For example, if your characters are going for a walk in the park, WHY are they there? Could they be meeting someone? Are they on their way to a fair? Can you think of a story you already know that you could take ideas from? Use the planning sheet to really explore your ideas and make some notes so that you don’t forget what you want to write about. If you think of a good sentence, write it down in your book. Tomorrow, you will write your story, neatly in your books.

Maths – practise counting in 2s with Jack Hartmann. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCxvNtrcDIs  See if you can persuade an adult to join in with you. Then, choose your work sheet from the pack and message me with the title (or take a photo) so that I will know which answers to give you, tomorrow.

Comprehension – Choose a comprehension sheet and read it carefully, then answer the questions. Parents, if you want an answer sheet, again, message me with the title so I can prepare one for you, tomorrow.

ART FUN – Draw an Easter Pug Bunny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvAUmeaT3N4

Watch the video and listen carefully to the instructions, then draw along to make your own cute picture. Don’t forget to colour it in and post your finished drawing on Dojo so I can see them. Have fun, boys!

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Tuesday 24th March 2020

Good morning, Rainbow Group. Welcome to Day 2 of Home School.

I hope you had fun learning with your parents/carers yesterday. Please let me know if you had any problems accessing anything so that I con look into making any necessary changes to this system.

I have posted pictures of your tasks on our class story and I have also posted answers to yesterday’s maths task – Number Bonds to 10 and 20. You can ask an adult to mark your answers or you can do it yourself. No Cheating! 😀 Today’s tasks are as follows:

Writing – finish your recount from yesterday. When this is finished, I have posted a poem for you to copy in your books. Please do this in your neatest handwriting. Remember that your letters should be on the line and of the same size. Capital letters and tall letters (b, d, f, g, h, j, k ,l, p, t, y) should be taller or longer. Use your finger spaces.

Maths – Work out and count with Jack Hartmann. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_yUC1NCFkE Then, in your book, practise writing your numbers to 10 or 20 in words. You have a worksheet about measuring in your work pack. You need to complete this and then follow the instructions for the extension tasks.

Phonics – We will recap the ‘sh’ digraph. Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptfu3tL0OBg and practise reading and writing the words. Then, look at the pictures on class story and try to write the words, independently. (Parents, if your children struggle to work out the correct ‘sh’ word, the pictures are ship, cash, sheep, shut, push, shout, wash, fish, shark, shop, brush, shoe, ash, shoot, shell, sunshine).

I will again be online until 12 o’clock to answer any questions you may have. Please send me pictures of your finished work (on Dojo) so that I can give you Dojo points. I will also post your pictures in your portfolios on Dojo so that we can keep track of the work you have completed.

Have a great day, Rainbow Group. Remember to have little breaks when you need them.

Mrs Thorp

Dojo message Monday 23rd March 2020

Good morning everyone,

Please look at the instructions (posted as pictures) on our Class story and read through these with your child. The last slide contains the work for today. The children have completed pieces of work like this, previously, but if they are struggling, or have forgotten how to do this, please do message me and I will help in whatever way I can.

The work is not designed to be completed in one session. In Rainbow Group, we have lots of short breaks when your child needs them so if you feel they need a rest, try one of our Brain Breaks in the links, below.

Good Luck and remember that I will be available, on Dojo, until lunch time (12 o’clock). I look forward to seeing pictures of your child’s work as they complete the tasks.
