PSHE at Northfield Manor Primary AcademyPersonal Social Health and Economic Education
The Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) programme at Northfield Manor Primary Academy is designed to develop the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and global citizens.
Through our PSHE programme and through the wider curriculum we want our pupils to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to:
- Understand what is meant by a healthy lifestyle
- Develop good relationships with peers
- Understand and value themselves and others
- Make informed choices regarding personal, economic and social issues
- Understand safety and e-safety
- Be self-confident and aspirational
PSHE at Northfield Manor Primary Academy is taught through termly units and is delivered in an age- appropriate way in order to meet and support the children’s needs. These themes are sequential and developmental throughout the academic year and progress through the year groups.

Assemblies
Our school assemblies work in conjunction with these themes, enabling focus areas to be shared across the school, underpinning learning behaviours, school ethos and high expectations. Our school values, school rules and British Values are embedded through the teaching of PSHE as well as through our school assemblies.
RHE (Relationships & Health Education)
As of September 2020, Relationships & Health Education is statutory which means all schools must teach it. At Northfield Manor, we do not teach sex education, other than in the science curriculum. In science, children will learn about life cycles and the processes from conception, through birth and death. Puberty lessons are taught to Year 5 pupils as a block of sequential lessons and parents are informed prior to this taking place.
At NMPA we strongly believe that tolerance and acceptance are vital skills for the children to learn and develop in order to become good citizens in our ever-changing society.
