The Curriculum at Northfield Manor Primary Academy

Using the National Curriculum as our starting point, we have designed a broad and balanced curriculum that is real, immersive and purposeful. Foundation subjects are taught through a cross-curricular (thematic) approach, each unit culminating in an engaging ‘learning challenge’.

Our learning challenges are designed to make learning relevant, purposeful and fun – you can see the challenges are on our ‘Curriculum Overview’.

We also incorporate social enterprise so that our pupils recognise their own stake in society and make a positive contribution to the local and wider community.

English, Maths and Science are taught discretely and the skills learned in these subjects are applied across the curriculum as is relevant.

Arts subjects and opportunities are very important to us at Northfield Manor and we are proud to have been awarded a Gold Arts Award. All pupils in Year 3 and 4 receive specialist music tuition through Services for Education. Year 3 learn to play the ukulele and Year 4 play clarinet or flute. Where there is passion and commitment, pupils are encouraged to elect to take further small-group lessons in Years 5 and 6.

PE is taught by the class teacher and by a specialist sports coach who also delivers after-school clubs.

Families also have opportunities to come into school to work with their children and learn more about our curriculum through ‘Inspire sessions’.
