Behaviour Support

At Northfield Manor Primary Academy, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and understood. Our approach to behaviour support is designed to help all children thrive emotionally, socially, and academically in a calm and nurturing environment. We understand that behaviour is a form of communication, and our focus is on supporting children to develop the skills they need to express themselves appropriately, build positive relationships, and make good choices.

Our approach is grounded in evidence-based practice and recognised best practice in education. All of our staff are trained in:

· Emotion Coaching – helping children to understand and regulate their emotions in healthy ways.

· De-escalation Strategies – maintaining safety and calm during moments of challenge or emotional dysregulation.

· Teach Like a Champion – using practical, high-impact teaching techniques that support consistency and clarity in classrooms.

· When the Adults Change, Everything Changes – drawing on the principles of consistent adult behaviour, relational practice, and restorative approaches.

· Walkthroughs – a toolkit of proven strategies that promote positive behaviour and high-quality teaching, used consistently across the school. Through this blend of relationship-centred support and professional practice, we aim to create a school culture where children feel empowered, respected, and ready to succeed.

Routines and Expectations

To create an environment where all children can succeed, we prioritise the development of strong, consistent routines and clearly communicated expectations. These provide the structure children need to feel confident, stay focused, and engage fully with their learning.

Routines are deliberately designed to maximise learning time, reduce low-level disruption, and build independence. Whether it’s how children enter the classroom, participate in lessons, or move around the school, every routine serves a purpose and is practised regularly to ensure it becomes second nature.

Expectations at Northfield Manor are high and consistent—not just for behaviour, but also for effort, attitude, and learning. We make sure children understand what is expected, how to meet those expectations, and why it helps them succeed. This clarity helps build a calm, purposeful atmosphere where all pupils can thrive.

By embedding these routines and expectations into daily school life, we support both positive behaviour and strong academic outcomes—creating a learning environment where every child is ready to do their best.
